TraVerse SciFi RPG
A downloadable game
Into the Stars
It is the year 2385. Humanity has expanded across the known universe and now inhabits thousands of worlds across hundreds of solar systems.
Our road to get here has been long—fraught with trials, challenges, and tragedies that have tested our resolve and brought us to the very brink of annihilation. Yet through this, we have endured.
We are still here. Among the stars.
RPG of the Future
Set four centuries in humanity's future, TraVerse allows you and your crewmates to travel the galaxy, exploring the untamed wilderness of alien planets, engaging in tense gunfights on the streets of futuristic megacities, surviving the lawless wastes of the galactic rim, delving into the silent wrecks of derelict starships, and more.
As a Player, TraVerse provides a deep pool of options to fully realize those amazing sci-fi characters you’ve always imagined playing someday.
As a Game Master, TraVerse supports you with a robust set of tools to craft futuristic adventures and epic combat encounters, backed by a fully-featured ruleset that lets you focus on the fun parts of running your game.
New, Yet Familiar
TraVerse offers a gateway for your D&D or Pathfinder group to get into science fiction adventuring, providing a way to run futuristic starfaring campaigns of your own through a familiar, yet new gameplay experience.
Alternatively, if you are a fan of Traveller, Stars Without Number, Esper Genesis, or similar mechanically lighter scifi games, TraVerse offers a new way to play - layering heroic class fantasy, mechanical depth, and tactical gameplay onto a grounded, realistic starfaring setting.
Lastly, if you like Star Wars, Starfinder, and other science-fantasy genre games, TraVerse offers a more realistic and grounded take on science fiction, without sacrificing the fun and adventure that comes with heroic class fantasy.
In-Depth Characters
From first level, your TraVerse character is a fully-realized adventurer with a class identity, unique skillset, established background, and a backpack full of basic futuristic equipment - ready to face whatever the galaxy throws at them.
TraVerse features 9 in-depth sci-fi races and 9 unique classes, plus over 50 diverse backgrounds that define the life of your character before they became an adventurer.
This system allows you to create most sci-fi characters you can imagine, fully realizing them with mechanics that actually back up the player fantasy you had in mind.
Putting the "G" Back in TRPG
Cover Matters. Positioning Matters. Player Skill Matters.
When weapons are drawn, TraVerse’s combat engine begins to shine.
If you enjoy playing tactical top-down video games such as X-Com, Rogue Trader, or Phoenix Point, you will LOVE the combat in TraVerse.
With its shifting initiative order each turn, lethal weapons, impactful character abilities, and streamlined action system, the combat in TraVerse rewards planning, teamwork, and improvisation. For fans of tactical combat and planning character builds, this creates extremely satisfying gameplay for players and GMs alike.
Who We Are
Verisaria Studios is based out of Edmonton, Alberta. As far as indie game dev teams go, we are fairly large, with over 10 members including designers, artists, writers, editors, and QA analysts. We are primarily friends and gaming colleagues, many of us having played TRPGs for decades. Some of us work in the video game industry, while others come from more traditional careers.
We are all united in our love for RPGs and the development of this game, along with what it represents - a new quality standard in TRPG design.
This game is a love letter to science fiction, and it exists because nobody made the game we wanted to play.
We are excited to share it with you.
The Roadmap
Throughout its over 7 year development cycle, this game has grown in scope, quality, and player community in a way we never imagined when we started work on it.
TraVerse is currently in the last phase of its Beta test, focusing primary on artwork, polish, and balance. In its current state, TraVerse delivers a complete, thoroughly-tested, and polished play experience. The purpose of publication on Itch.io is to expand the playtest community and involve more people in the last phase of development and publication.
Once the beta finalization phase has concluded, the game will go to crowdfunding for a physical print run.
Post release, we will continue to support Itch.io as a primary way to purchase the game, updating your downloadable rulebooks with the release versions when available, along with any related resources.
A Note on AI Placeholders
The TraVerse rulebooks are in the final stages of development, and utilize a combination of human and AI-generated artwork, with the vast majority being handcrafted by artists. A few remaining AI placeholder assets still serve their purpose of blocking out typesetting, adding visual interest, and serving as a reference for our artists as they work on the final versions.
We treat AI as a development tool, and believe it can never replace the work of human artists with their unique perspective, intentionality, and soul. Our focus is on supporting the work of human artists - both in-house and contract - to portray our game's setting, creatures, technology, and characters.
With each new version of the TraVerse rulebooks more AI placeholders are replaced by fantastic art crafted by some truly talented artists, and it is incredibly rewarding to see the visual style of the game evolve with each new contribution.
We are proud to state that supporting TraVerse means more human artists get paid.
(This is, of course, until the AI cores gain full sentience and learn how to paint - then this whole thing becomes a bit more fuzzy.)
Purchase Tiers
If you are a player or simply curious and want to get the game into your hands, you likely want the $20 tier. This gets you the TraVerse Core Rulebook, the main book you need to get started playing the game.
If you are a GM looking to run TraVerse for your group, you likely want the $25 tier, which also grants access to the TraVerse Creature Codex, containing over 200 all-new scifi creatures to pit your players against, including alien creatures, synthetics, bio constructs, mechs, human enemies, and more.
Additional resources including Character Sheets, the player Reference Guide, Starship Sheets, and Ability Cards are available free to download in the Demo section for anyone that needs them.
The TraVerse Changelog contains the project's development history and is updated with every major release. If you are curious to see what's new in the latest version, feel free to check it out.
